Deborah Edward

Deborah Edward has been involved in nonprofit, cultural and educational projects in Austin for many years. Deborah was the first director of Greenlights for NonProfit Success, guiding this nonprofit management support center to its current role as the go-to-place for all things nonprofit in Central Texas. She continues to provide consulting and training through Greenlights. She was also co-founder of the Austin Children's Museum and served as its executive director for 16 years.

Deborah has worked on numerous community projects, including developing the successful grant proposal that attracted over $2 million in funds to create a shared information technology for tracking Austin's uninsured; developing a vision and strategy for Austin's libraries for the future; and organizing the Austin Museum Partnership.

Deborah is active with art, education and cultural issues. She is a Fulbright Specialist, after receiving a Fulbright Scholar Award for work in the Czech Republic and is a consultant for the Fund for Arts and Culture in Central and Eastern Europe. She serves on the Advisory Council of the Humanities Center Community Sabbatical Program at the University of Texas. In addition. she provides training and writes about nonprofit issues, board development, fundraising, and planning.

Deborah teaches Nonprofit Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the RGK Center for Philanthropy and Volunteerism at the LBJ School of Public Affairs (University of Texas at Austin).

Deborah holds a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin. She is married, with three children, and is an on and off traveler, bicyclist, and triathlete.
